Friessinger Muehle

Case study

Emotron VFDs supporting the biggest mill company in South West Germany

When Friessinger Muehle in Bad Wimpfen decided to build a brand new mill, the wide Emotron portfolio of VFDs and softstarters became a great contributor of drive technology.

A great variety of new VFDs and softstarters were needed. The applications included elevators, screw conveyors, conveyor belts, fans, roller mills, mixers, dosing units and pellet presses – to mention some examples.

Expanding mill production

Friessinger Mühle has been in the milling industry since 1859. In 2017 it was decided to expand its production capacity from 800 to 1200 tons per day.

A new buildung (named „Paula“) was built and since 2019 the additional production is up and running. Due to the positive long term experience with CG Drives & Automation, Emotron VFDs and softstarters are primarily used in the new building.

About 70 Softstarters and 100 drives are now producing the additional planned 400 tons per day, and further expansion has been planned.

Smart VFD programming for screw conveyors

For the screw conveyors, some smart internal programming functions of the drives are used. In one screw conveyor a reverse turn at start of the process helps to the material break through, preventing a jam.

For another screw conveyor, a reverse turn is used to pull the material back into the tube at the end of the proces to avoid material being left in the mixing tube to reduce the purging procedure.

Robust drives for rough enivronments

CG Drives & Automation has designed and delivered VFDs in the range 0.37-400kW and softstarters in the range 15-90kW. The mechanical and electrical robust IP54 drives are ideal as the ambient temperature can be high and particles from the milling process forms a dusty environment.

CG Drives & Automation was chosen thanks to their excellent cooperation abilities, application know-how and extensive product offer.
