Multidrive Solutions – Common DC-Bus Architecture

CG Emotron’s multidrive solutions allow multiple drives, generators and power sources to share one common DC-bus, creating a highly efficient and flexible platform for modern energy and motion systems.

Built on our modular AFG, DCU and VSI converters, the architecture supports everything from industrial drives to hybrid and renewable power systems.

How it works – typical system architecture

  • A central common DC-bus forms the backbone of the system:
DC sources feed the DC-bus: Batteries, fuel-cells, PV or wind turbines connect via the DCU. An AFG/AFR can supply the DC-bus from the electricity grid.

  • Motors & generators on one DC-bus: One or more VSI modules draw from or feed into the DC-bus, driving motors or controlling generators with bidirectional power flow.

  • Modular & scalable: Modules make it easy to expand power, add more drives, or integrate new DC sources.

Your benefits at a glance

  • Scalable & flexible: Add or remove drives or sources as your system evolves.
  • Reduced footprint & cost: Shared DC-bus lowers component count and optimises infrastructure.
  • High efficiency: Low harmonics, unity power factor and energy reuse through regeneration.
  • Future-proof design: Ready for batteries, supercapacitors, hybrid drives and micro-grid operation.
  • Seamless integration: AFG for grid interface, VSI for motor/generator control, DCU for DC-DC adaptation.
  • Proven reliability: Rugged modular design with built-in redundancy and stable performance.

Multidrive & Common DC-Bus excel in:

  • Multidrive industrial application with several inverters/converters
  • Marine and offshore DC-grid installations
  • Renewable power generation with storage
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Hybrid electric drive systems
