When Hochschule Flensburg (Flensburg University of Applied Sciences) set out to develop a cutting-edge test bench to simulate the fluctuating behavior of wind in wind turbine applications, they needed more than just components—they needed a complete, engineered solution.
CG Emotron delivered just that: a fully integrated, high-performance drive system tailored specifically to meet the university’s ambitious technical and spatial requirements.
The test bench is powered by a gas engine and designed to replicate the variable torque and speed conditions found in actual wind energy environments.
At the heart of the solution is an 800 kW, 690V system driven by CG Emotron’s FDUL69-800 inverter, operating since 2021.

The configuration allows the test bench to either power the university or feed electricity back to the local grid, supplying Stadtwerke Flensburg with energy via the AFG inverter. The water to water cooling system utilizes saltwater from the nearby Flensburger Förde.
CG developed a custom cabinet solution integrating not only the drive, but also power distribution, transformer, water cooling and ready-to-fit battery interface.
With the system now fully operational, Hochschule Flensburg is using it to power advanced research in wind energy simulation.
