Battery Energy Storage

Case study

Energy conversion for waste incineration with grid feedback

As for any energy conversion plant using waste as an energy source, this wood chip burning plant requires a set of robust efficient converters for its energy conversion. As the Energy Management System (EMS) utilizes both a battery and the public grid, Emotron converters control the generators as well as the DC voltage to be able to feed the battery. Unique Emotron software functions allow the EMS full flexibility in power source and efficient grid feedback.

Additionally, to supply the best stability and efficiency for Battery Storage Systems (BESS), Emotron has developed a product that makes battery power even more reliable and cost-efficient.

Integrated energy-optimizing system for biomass plants

CG Emotron has implemented a drive system for this incineration plant that seamlessly adjusts the generator’s load level while delivering electricity
directly to the grid or the battery. The modular Emotron converters handle several power modules with ease – in this case two power units are run in parallel.

Complete customized cabinet solutions

The core of this system consists of three Emotron converters. The Emotron Active Front End with Grid connection (AFG), two Emotron Voltage Source
Inverters (VSI) and an Emotron DC Unit (DCU).

These components, along with an LCL filter, RFI filter, DC fuses, contactors and voltage measurement units, are all housed within a single cabinet delivered in a turnkey solution from CG Emotron.

Specialized software for black start in island mode

The solution has the ability to work directly in island mode, and black start the system directly from the battery when the system is off-grid.

Compliant with Grid Code Standards

The Emotron AFG grid converter is compliant with EU grid codes and meets the regulatory requirements of numerous countries worldwide.

The grid converter is designed according European Regulation 2016/631 for establishing a network code on requirements for grid connection of generators, based on the international standards IEC 50549-1 and IEC50549-2. For the specific grid code deviations and adaptations in countries, our software is prepared to comply to these national grid codes.

Power stability for energy efficiency

To handle load unbalances, the Emotron AFG allows for an overcurrent of 150% and Emotron DCU can operate within 15-85% of full voltage. Naturally, all converters keep low harmonics.

The Emotron VSI generator converter is equipped with application software that optimizes torque and speed for maximum output. It also features a variety of automatic functions and can be customized to meet specific requirements.

Superordinate control systems

Emotron converters interact both with the Energy Management System (EMS) and the Battery Management System (BMS) and thorugh standard user interface and bus communication modules.
