Kalmar water

Case study

Smart drive functions avoid unnecessary maintenance

At Kalmar water, reliable operation is a must. The area of responsibility, which includes approximately 150 pump stations, previously required daily calls to manually stop and reverse pumps.

Many of the stations have Emotron variable frequency drives. A small change in the software has meant that these pumping stations now rarely need maintenance due to jamming.

Pumps getting stuck leading to many hours of maintenance

At Kalmar water, there used to be stops every day in one of the many pumps. Rags and other washed-down items caused the stoppages, which often required a manual stop and reverse of the pump.

Smart functions for reliable operation

There are various types and sizes of Emotron frequency drives and soft starters connected to the many pumps in the area.

The Emotron FDU drives in many of the pump stations could be fitted with a software update which enabled the inverter to automatically sense a sluggish pump and automatically reverse with good results.

The new pump cleaning function is so popular that it will now be released in the next software update for all Emotron FDUs.

Emotron is the choice for customer service

Technicians from Emotron were able to guide Heine Lindqvist and Leif Nilsson at Kalmar Water to the simple software update. Thanks to the intuitive programming functions, they could easily install and access the new feature themselves.

Skilled technicians work together

“If you have a problem, call Emotron. If someone at Emotron can’t, no one else can!” laughs Leif.

“Yes, we have had a very good collaboration for many years” notes Heine.
